Ever since childhood, I have had a strong curiosity about people, and I have focused on drawing portraits of people. As I have grown older and changed in my environment, I have experienced and absorbed the uniquely Japanese "subculture," "gal" and "society" in my own unique perspective, and I record and weave images of modern people and their light and shadow, sometimes even projecting myself into them.
Many of the women who appear in my work are me, you, or someone else who is neither me nor you. I draw them as avatars, temporary figures that are like vessels that hold souls that are as close to human as possible.
I use oil paints in most of the processes because I feel that they are "alive" in the weight and slow drying characteristics of oil paints, which are like breathing.
While drawing with the image of an avatar or temporary figure, I entrust the "rawness" inside, which cannot be seen from the outside, to the weight of oil paint.
In social media and society, it has become commonplace for us to connect with someone or something using a face or figure that is different from our true appearance, like a substitute. By sensitively capturing the subtleties of the heart and the light and shadow that arise in such a situation, the viewer can look at the expressions of modern people through the painting as if they were looking down on them. I aim to create art that allows you to freely move between "someone" and "yourself" in the painting.
